Motorcycles By Honda Have Appealed To Many Nationalities ...

Soichiro Honda?s interest was automobiles, but, paradoxically, he designed Honda motorcycles. Driving fast plus racing were activities he enjoyed, and this interest was complemented by his mechanical knowledge, picked up from working in an auto repair shop while he was in his teens. He got lots of experience with riding motorcycles, because he owned and operated both an Indian, and a Harley.

It appeared to be only when he was 41, in 1948, that Honda launched his Honda Motor Company, but he had already owned an auto repair shop, starting way back in 1928. He paid a lot of attention to good quality, because he trusted that to compete he needed well-designed products that were made well. In 1953 Japan was having to deal with a depression, and, despite the fact that sales of motorcycles were on the up, the existence of his company was in jeopardy. He kept his manufacturing plant in operation so as to avoid laying off people, even though only a small number of motorcycles were actually selling. It turned out a good decision, because the C100 Super Cub was launched in 1958, and it became the world?s most successful motorcycle. The bike was versatile and also inexpensive, inside anybody?s reach, driven by a 4-stroke motor with a 3-speed transmission.

Not merely could new users operate it easily, but it became a way of commuting for women. By 1959, as a result of this bike, the biggest maker of motorcycles was Honda. They made the decision that it was time for advancement all over the world. They supposed that the USA was the main market to seize at the outset. Approval by the American public would mean acceptance by the rest of the world. June of 1959 marked the first time a Honda could be bought from a retail store in America, namely in Los Angeles, and the number of well-to-do dealerships had mushroomed close to 75 just a year later.

By making accessible half the funding for two important organizations, Honda exhibited their commitment to the community and won a huge amount of public trust for their company. The organizations, both of which were sincerely appreciated by motorcycling enthusiasts, were the Motorcycle Safety Council and the Motorcycle Industry Council. In the 70?s the Honda company kept developing new models that people just couldn?t resist, and they stayed number one in the industry. Their motorcycles won more than 70 races worldwide in 1973, giving them the status of the fastest bikes around. Other bike companies were quick to jump on the bandwagon, when, in 1975, touring bikes became fashionable as well as comfortable, following the introduction of the GL1000 Gold Wing.

Honda continued to develop novel motorcycles which appeal to a cross-spectrum of cultures. Annually Honda donate a lot of motorcycles to what they regard as worthwhile causes, and this helps retain the respect and fondness with which they are regarded. Honda still encourage biking safety through the courses they sponsor and by helping bikers have access to the most up-to-date information available. Honda have created a history of trustworthiness over the many years they have been available. Some of the big chances they have taken, have made them such a successful empire in motorcycles.
