Record drought in South Florida gave a setback in the fight against the spread of exotic plants in the Everglades.
Much of the Everglades dried, what was the driest October to June at the plate to expand in South Florida.
Melaleuca and other fast-growing transplants from other parts of the world is a threat to the Everglades, which overwhelms and displaces native plants, animals damage.
Particularly hard hit was the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, believes that the remains of the northern Everglades. The resort, which stretches along the western Palm Beach County, at one point was 95 percent dry.
