Disenfranchised Mon-Tour riders - WELCOME!
Riverside Adventure Company would like to invite you to a PICNIC!
It is a picnic for people who share a love of road cycling. ?This picnic is not an organized event, it is simply a way for like-minded people to get together to share a common interest in road cycling.
THIS EVENT IS FREE!
However, we would request that you either bring a covered dish to share with other picnickers, or make a $10.00 donation to the "picnic basket". ?The money in the basket will be used to purchase food to share with those picnickers that don't cook.
RAC is not the Organizer of this event. ?RAC is simply making our property available to like-minded cycling enthusiasts. ?This is similar to a hunter allowing other hunters to hunt on their land. ?Just a gesture of community.
Although picnicking cyclists are free to ride where ever they like, three sets of cue sheets are listed below and will be available at the Riverside Adventure Company location for those that would like to ride in memory of the recently cancelled Mon-Tour event.
I'm sure, may picnickers would enjoy to ride together on the epic 82 mile main course. ?This was the course that became a local legend and super anticipated event until conditions became unmanageable and Organizers decided to cancel the Mon-Tour event. ?How cool would it be to see several hundred cyclist riding this course together again?!
If you decide to attend, this is what you can expect on ride/picnic day:
Cue sheets will be available for the three separate local routes that used to be the Mon-tour. picnickers are welcome to take any of these cue sheets they desire and ride together along the route. As this is a ride (and not a race) roads will not be marked. It will be the responsibility of each picnicker?to know the route they want to ride, or follow their cue sheets.
RULES:
- Can you ride together in a big pack? - Sure!
- Can you ride fast? - Sure
- Can you draft, and do whatever you want as long as you don't break the rules of the road? - Sure!
As we said above, food and drink will be BYO, but if we each bring a covered dish or donate $10.00 to the picnic basket; we could have a heck of a picnic feast at the end of the ride!
RAC will contact the Old Forge Brewing Company and see if they will consider extending the same sponsorship to this ride as they extended to the Mon-Tour event. More on that as it develops.
Parking is plentiful at the RAC, and if we run out of spaces in our lot, picnickers are encouraged to park along the rail road lines in front of our location. ?This ground is often used for parking during other events.
At the beginning of the RIDE, someone from RAC will put our race clock out near the road start location. You can use this clock to determine how long you have been riding. And of course, you can always use your smart phones or GPS to measure you time and distance.
The Mon-Tour race had vendors & swap meet opportunities. ?RAC will reach out to these vendors to see if they would like to attend our picnic ride, in leu?of the Mon-Tour race. ?Hopefully, these vendors will see the value of this new venue and orientation and agree to be our guests.
Also, RAC will volunteer the use of our 15 passenger van to support the ride in a SAG capacity. ?We would simply need a person with a good driving record to volunteer to drive.
Unlike the Mon-tour home base location of the Danville High School, this new ride/picnic Home base location will offer some fun options:1. Games - We will have horse shoes and other "lawn games" available to our picnickers. ?What's a picnic without lawn games?
2. ?Slip and Slide - After an exhausting ride, you can either gingerly get into the water at our Susquehanna Riverfront property, or chose to use our "hillbilly slip and slide" feature. ?It's a good choice to have!
3. ?Canoes, kayaks, paddle boards - Didn't get enough exercise on the ride? ?Want to paddle around in the river a bit post ride? ?We have a bunch of watercraft that we could extend to our picnickers.
Maps of the routes and Cue Sheets Micro-Mon-Tour (alt) - This is a 21.7 mile route. ?Half hills, half flat. ?A taste of the Monster; without the suffering.Mini-Mon-Tour (alt) - This is a 42.9 mile route. ?Many of the same hills as the Monster route, but with less milage.
Monster-Mon-Tour (alt) - This is the 82 mile epic! ?If you can just ride this entire route without pushing the bike, you are an animal!?
