According to sources, Lincoln-Way Central athletic director Hud Venerable will be named the Knights? next football coach, pending approval by the District 210 school board at its next meeting Dec. 13.
?It?s a done deal,? said the source, who asked to remain anonymous.
Venerable, 57, was not available for comment. Nor was Lincoln-Way Central principal, Dr. Steve Provis.
Venerable would replace Brett Hefner, who resigned after recording a 7-20 mark over three years.
Venerable, an offensive specialist, coached for 14 years at Normal Community High School, going 126-37, winning seven Big 12 Conference titles and qualifying for the playoffs 13 times. His 2006 squad won the Class 6A state championship.
He coached one more season at Normal in 2007 before accepting the AD position at Lincoln-Way Central.
According to sources, Venerable will remain AD, with assistant athletic director Jason Helbling accepting additional responsibilities.
Sources also said Venerable will bring in at least one coach from outside the district, presumably to run the defense, to join his staff.
