OXON HILL, Md. (AP) ? Officials from MGM Resorts are describing the casino they?d like to build at Maryland?s National Harbor if voters approve an expansion of gambling.
The Washington Post reports MGM?s Jim Murren described the company?s plans at a recent gathering of Prince George?s County business leaders.
Murren says the casino would rise over the Potomac River like a spire as a ?nod to some of the great monuments? in the nation?s capital. He says it would be a luxury resort with high-end shopping and a view of the Washington Monument.
MGM is pumping millions of dollars into advertising to persuade voters to support an expansion of gambling.
Rival casino operator Penn National Gaming is fueling the fight against the expansion. It owns casinos in northeastern Maryland and in West Virginia.
