From fawning over real-life subway maps?redrawn in the classic NES?Super Mario Bros. style to maps showing?how best to survive a zombie apocalypse, those of us here at Tecca are best described as?cartographiles. And we're incredibly excited here to learn that all those?one-off maps we've posted were all just appetizers. Because this week, PBS is serving up the main course: A series called?America Revealed, which shows the cartographic footprints of the U.S. pizza industry, the movement of electricity, and much more, all in-motion on giant computer generated maps.
Four episodes of?America Revealed are currently airing on PBS in the U.S. The series will premiere in the U.K. today. If you haven't seen it yet, each episode dissects a different industry in the U.S., from the food industry ? the map above shows a snapshot of the Domino's pizza distribution network ? to the map of U.S. job losses below. And it does so through the use of?GPS technology combined with absolutely luscious visuals.
If you think these motionless maps are something, you're guaranteed to be absolutely blown away by the in-motion versions in the special. After all, it's hard to appreciate the slow, steady beat of America's pizza-and-cholesterol soaked streets without seeing it change over time.
