How To Write A Great Cover Letter | New Rich Strategies

A great cover letter for your resume is like wearing a well-tailored business suit to a job interview. It will get you noticed. And all other things being equal, it should get you the job.

Don?t miss the opportunity a great cover letter offers to make a good impression on your prospective employer. It makes no sense not to include a cover letter with your resume. All that shows is that you don?t know how to take advantage of every opportunity that is offered to you. You want to use the cover letter as an
additional tool to remind the employer what an ideal employee and useful addition to the firm you would make.

By all means make the cover letter brief. Do not use humor. Do not repeat items from your resume, although you can stress selling points, such as ?As I mention in my resume, my responsibilities were the development and management of the site?s editorial voice and style. That also included my work in maintaining the calendar and the daily content programming and production of the web site.?

You want your cover letter to project an image of friendliness, efficiency and energy. You also want to impress your prospective employer with your enthusiasm for the company and the job. Cover letter examples include ?I am eager to work for your company, because I know my energy, resourcefulness and skills will be recognized and rewarded. My own desire to do an outstanding job matches your company?s skill in achieving results. This would be an ideal pairing of employee and employer.?

It would be helpful if your experience has taught you how to build strong relationships with all departments of the organizations you previously worked for. Being a team player is a valuable characteristic. Showing how you can work with web engineers to resolve technical issues, for example, as well as with the development department to implement design and functional enhancements, stresses what a multi-talented team player you are.

Don?t forget to thank the person you are writing to for his or her consideration. Be sure all your phone numbers, email and home addresses are included and up-to-date. You might also want to state an optimal time you can be reached.

Above all, don?t be shy in mentioning all your abilities, and how they helped your previous employers to profit. You will find this will help you to profit by leading you to your next step up the ladder.

Author Chris Gray: Tips for the Love Shy Guy | Motivate to Create

(Christopher Gray is the author of From Shy to Social, which offers confidence-boosting tips, insights and exercises for ?love shy? men)

Interviewed by Nate Hendley

What motivates you to write? Is it the promise of money, fame, power, recognition, self-fulfillment or something else?

Ideally, I would like to make a living by writing. I?ve had a few different careers so far in my professional life, ranging from technical writing to sales, to project management. Up to now my writing has usually been somewhat sporadic, and I?ve reached a point where I would rather it be front and centre. So to answer your question, I?d say that it is a career choice. Also, should any of my work help or inspire people I would get a strong sense of satisfaction from that. And a little recognition along the way would be a nice bonus.

Do you have any ?tricks of the trade? that help you kick-start the creative process?

When starting a new project I always sit in front of the computer in ?brainstorming mode,? where I don?t worry about writing, but I jot down any one-word ideas or sentences related to the subject. Every twenty or thirty minutes I?ll get up from my desk and pace the house, while saying aloud any thoughts related to those initial ideas (even when a project is well under way), which helps me come up with new ideas. As soon as I hit on an interesting concept I return to the computer and work it into the project.

What is your book, From Shy to Social, all about? Who is it aimed at?

From Shy to Social: The Shy Man?s Guide to Personal & Dating Success is the kind of book I could have used fifteen years ago, when I was extremely reserved and wasn?t having much luck with women. A lot of guys, of any age, have trouble talking to women or have general social anxiety and don?t socialize much. My book is based on some of the successful things I did to turn my life around and gain a much more satisfying dating and social life. It?s aimed at any guy from college age on, who might be at a loss as how to successfully interact with women, to older divorced men who may be intimidated at starting over.

Have you published before? What made you decide to write a book?

Outside of a few articles I wrote for my University newspaper, my first published work was shortly after graduation when I wrote a couple of software and hardware product reviews for Canadian and British computer magazines. After writing a few pieces for these magazines I found full time work as a technical writer, and my freelance work lay dormant for a few years. But over the next decade and a half, as a reserved person unsatisfied with the direction my life was going, I decided to look for a solution. I talked to dating experts and psychologists, took acting classes to get over my fear of public speaking, and became active in my local constituency, among other things. Once I reached a certain point in my progress I realized my journey had the makings of a good story, and so I wrote From Shy to Social.

What are your ?de-motivators? (i.e. things that take away your drive to write or steer it to an unproductive place)? How do you cope with these de-motivators?

The biggest de-motivator is nice weather, when I?d rather be outside walking and enjoying the city. Sometimes on those days I write in the morning and evening, leaving some time for me to go out in the afternoon. However if you do this too much you will become unproductive, so I compensate by writing in the evening, and on weekends if I have no other plans.

Do you have any role models who inspire you in your personal and professional life?

I admire people with a good work ethic, and who are adept at public speaking, because I know how hard it can be. I also admire those who have attained success, in any field.

In your opinion, is talent overrated? Does society put too much emphasis on skill and not enough on will?

Will power is the key. Even extremely talented people can sabotage themselves by not devoting the energy required to do good work. If you aren?t particularly talented at something, you can usually get better through dedication and effort.

The Numerous Health Benefits of Coconuts | Care2 Healthy Living

One of my all-time favorite fruits is the coconut. The Pacific Islanders believe that it is the cure for all illness, which is why the palm tree (from which coconuts are grown) is known as ?The Tree of Life.??Coconut oil is thought to possess healing properties above and beyond that of any other dietary oils.

Eating coconuts are excellent for one?s immunity. They are antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic, meaning they kill harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Because of that, if you consume coconut in any of its various forms (whether it be raw coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut butter, etc.), it can help treat some of mankind?s worst and most resilient of illnesses such as influenza, giardia, lice, throat infections, urinary tract infections, tapeworms, herpes, gonorrhea, bronchitis, and numerous other ailments caused by microbials.

Whether you?re eating the meat, drinking the juice, or consuming it as oil, coconuts are a delicious and nutritious source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It has tons of calcium, potassium, and magnesium, as well as plenty of electrolytes. In fact, coconut water is known to have the same electrolyte levels as human plasma, and has even been used for plasma transfusions!

The oil is excellent for keeping one young and beautiful. Its antioxidant properties slow down the aging process by protecting the body from harmful free radicals. I like to put a little bit of coconut oil on my skin every day to keep it nice and smooth, as well as free from dryness. I apply it onto my skin before showering. The hot water opens my pores, allowing the oil to absorb through my skin more efficiently. Just make sure to wipe the bottom of the tub when you?re done, since the coconut oil can be slippery. Coconut oil is also known to treat skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.

It also helps hair to become more healthy and lustrous. My hair has always been a bit on the dry, thin side, so I like to put coconut oil in it. On occasion, I?ll leave the oil in my hair overnight (covering my pillow with a towel so as to not get it oily) and wash it out in the morning. I?m always satisfied to find my hair is moist, radiant, and shiny. It?s a great alternative if you don?t want to use a leave-in conditioner.

Eating coconuts also supports the development of strong, healthy bones and teeth. It does this by improving the body?s ability to absorb calcium and magnesium. It also prevents osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become thin and fragile and lose their density. This makes coconuts a good, healthy alternative for those who are lactose intolerant, but still want to have strong bones and teeth. Those who prefer a vegan diet can benefit from it as a good source of protein and fatty acids.

When coconut oil was first brought to the U.S., there was a lot of negative hype about it because it contains high levels of saturated fat. People were concerned that it increased cholesterol and contributed to heart disease?but this is a myth. It actually lowers cholesterol and reduces the chances of heart disease. This is because its fat content is simply changed into energy, lessening the likelihood of fat buildup in the arteries and heart.

White Sox beat Yankees to end 3-game skid

By RICK GANO

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 12:36 a.m. ET Aug. 21, 2012

CHICAGO (AP) - The White Sox put a lousy weekend in Kansas City behind them in a hurry. Really, there was no choice with the New York Yankees coming to town to start a three-game series between first-place teams.

Alexei Ramirez hit a go-ahead homer, Adam Dunn drove out his major league best 36th and Chicago rallied twice Monday night to beat the Yankees 9-6 in the opener.

"We played so bad in Kansas City," Dunn said of three-game sweep by the Royals that featured some sloppy baseball by the White Sox.

"The energy was going down a little bit in Kansas City. We didn't get off to a good start tonight. I think it shows the resiliency of this team. Obviously tonight wasn't looking good. We had some opportunities early to drive some runs in and we didn't and fell behind. We just kept battling."

Dewayne Wise and Gordon Beckham also homered for Chicago, which fell behind early 3-0 and also trailed 6-5.

"Every game is important. What happened in Kansas City, we have to leave in the past. The race is so tight, every night is going to be important," said Ramirez, who lost a double earlier in the game when umpires changed a call and ruled his bouncer over third foul.

"That's baseball. The calls will go your way in certain instances and I just had to take it in stride," Ramirez said. "Fortunately I was able to hit the home run and more importantly we won the game, that's the most important thing of all."

Ramirez connected with two outs in the seventh off Boone Logan (4-2) for his seventh homer of the season. Brett Myers (2-1) got the win by pitching two-thirds of an inning. Addison Reed worked the ninth for his 22nd save in 25 chances.

"It's tough to swallow. We've been scuffling as a whole down there lately," Logan said. "You gotta grind through it and get through it. We know that and we talk about it. We're doing the best we can."

Ramirez's homer came on a 3-2 pitch.

"It was a bad pitch, either way, but I was looking to throw it low, in the dirt. I was gonna show it to him, but in the dirt," Logan said. "If I walked him, onto the next guy. If he swings, I strike him out."

New York's Derek Jeter homered and had four hits, tying Eddie Murray for 11th place on the career hits list (3,255). He also took over 13th place on the runs scored list (1,845), passing Craig Biggio.

"He just continues to have big days for us. That's what he's doing. It is pretty amazing," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

Wise hit a two-run homer for Chicago as the White Sox scored five times in the fifth for a 5-3 lead, but the Yankees quickly went ahead in the top of the sixth on Jeter's solo homer and RBI singles by Mark Teixeira and pinch-hitter Casey McGehee.

However, Beckham homered off Joba Chamberlain to start the bottom of the sixth, tying it at 6.

The Yankees scored three early runs against White Sox starter Gavin Floyd, who was wild from the outset and lasted only 2 1-3 innings.

Wise, designated for assignment by the Yankees in July, hit his sixth homer in the fifth, shortly after umpires reversed a call and ruled that an apparent double by Ramirez was a foul ball.

"I mean I'm not going to lie. When you play against a former team you obviously want to go out there and try and do well," Wise said. "I don't think too many people can leave one team that was in first place and come to another one, so I'm pretty blessed and just glad to be here."

Ramirez led off with a bouncer over third that third base umpire Bill Welke ruled a fair ball with Ramirez reaching on second. But after an umps' conference, they reversed the call and ruled it was foul. White Sox manager Robin Ventura came out of the dugout for an explanation but the changed call stood and Ramirez then struck out. At the time it was a pivotal call because Beckham followed with a single and then Wise homered.

Kevin Youkilis followed with a single and Dunn and Paul Konerko walked to load the bases and finish Yankees starter Freddy Garcia. Chicago tied it on Alex Rios' fielder's choice grounder.

A.J. Pierzynski greeted reliever Clay Rapada with an RBI single to center, giving Chicago a 4-3 lead and after the Yankees brought in their fourth pitcher of the inning in Chamberlain, Dayan Viciedo hit another run-scoring single.

Jeter hit the game's first pitch for a single, tying him with Nap Lajoie for 12th place on the career list. Nick Swisher walked before Beckham made a nice back-handed stop on Robinson Cano's grounder to get a force at second. Teixeira hit an RBI single and Eric Chavez a run-scoring fielder's choice.

Curtis Granderson hit a bases-loaded single to make it 3-0 in the second before Rios' strong throw from right cut down Cano at the plate for the final out.

Garcia lasted 4 1-3 innings. He gave up six hits and five runs with eight strikeouts.

Floyd threw 50 pitches in the first two innings and was yanked after just 2 1-3 innings - his shortest outing of the season - when he gave up five hits, three runs and four walks.

NOTES: Yankees ace CC Sabathia is scheduled to throw a bullpen session this week and manager Joe Girardi said how the left-hander feels after that workout could determine if he can come off the DL and return to the rotation. ... White Sox CF and leadoff hitter Alejandro de Aza missed his third straight game with a sore back.

Greg Gill, CBS Local reports, drove 25 miles on I-70 with the stuck pedal, calling 911 for help along the way Saturday just before noon. Thanks to the patrol cars keeping traffic away from the runaway vehicle, Gill and no one else was injured after he crashed into an officer?s SUV.

?I flew by vehicles and went into the right median and the left median and everything I could do to just get around people without causing any kind of accidents,? Gill said according to CBS Local. ?Fortunately there were no accidents; no one was injured at all.?

Watch the report:

In this report from the local NBC affiliate, you can hear emergency responders saying Gill?s brakes were to the floor:

?I?m lucky to be alive and everyone on I-70 an US-40 is lucky to be alive,? Gill said.
